They're out and about and hungry, too
After a long period of cold weather (or at least what's considered cold by me), the temperature is finally in the 70's. I've made a post before on the green anoles, but I was so happy to see them out that I had to take another photo of one. Anoles hibernate during the cold and when it gets warm, they look rather hungry and grumpy and really only seem to care about eating, which is probably why this male let me get close enough for the shot.

Need a newspaper?
Every Sunday, there's a group of people out on the corners of the I-45 and 518/Main intersection from morning to night selling the Sunday Houston Chronicle. It's really impressive how hard they work to sell their papers. The guy on this corner has a bunch of his papers spread out on the curb, and propped on the post there the sign says "Sunday Chronicle $1.00"

Pizza Hut
To my knowledge, there's one Pizza Hut that serves most of League City and it's near Clear Creek High School. My dad and I went to pick up a pizza and since he just got himself a new camera (the old Canon Elph died) I took it for a test drive. This one's a Casio Exilim and I must say that it is a very good point and shoot camera; it's slim, quick, and all the essentials are within easy reach. I'm in love with it already. Unfortunately for my dad, the buttons are all very small, though.

Tuscan Lakes
Tuscan Lakes is the new "master planned community" on 96. It certainly is trying to make itself different from the already established South Shore Harbor community.
The arches in the photo end outside the frame in a kind of ruin-like way, though it's way too new looking for it to really work; it needs some vines or something.

Power lines and sunset
Today the sunset looked really pretty and the moon was just a tiny little sliver. This was taken before it got too dark on Hwy 3 facing west down 96.
Also, sorry about missing yesterday. It seems that I'll be taking over completely because Maggie's having trouble taking a daily photo on MWF. I'll try to hurry up and get used to taking more photos.

Clear Lake Dojo
On a little side street off of 96 you can find the Clear Lake Dojo inside a huge metal building where aikido, judo, jyodo, and iaido are taught. This is a shot of the wall with the shinzen. On the wall are the kamidana, a portrait of Hayashizaki Jinsuke Minamoto Shigenobu (the founder of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu), photos of sensei of our sensei, and more. I, for one, practice iaido there and this is a very important place for me. It's amazing what kinds of things go on in places very few people know about.

Don't see this often...
Bicycles are a rarity in the Houston area. Around here, everyone drives a car. Hardly anybody walks or rides bikes, and the mass transportation system is being fought against by a group of people... you'd think Houston's government was asking for a kidney. League City is still in the "Houston area" and thus is in the same situation, only we don't have any mass transportation system at all. So, when I saw this bike that was obviously used in place of a car, I had to take a photo.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the rail system expands... it'd be awesome if they had one that went from Galveston to Houston with a stop at League City and UH.

V-Nails
V-nails is a little nail place off of Hwy 3 that my mom and I go to, though I only go to get my eyebrows waxed; I kill nail polish. Over the past few years, they've been doing all sorts of things to the inside and now it's quite lovely. They even have spa-chair things you can sit in and have your back massaged by the chair while your toes are getting done.
Anyway, I thought I'd play around with the positioning in the frame... ah well. I've always thought that window was cool because it's warped.

Cute grave
This is one of my favorite graves in Fairview Cemetery, which Maggie and I have mentioned before. It's a very informal grave... in fact, a few other graves have the tiling like this one. I wonder why? Anyway, I like how personal and, well... loving this one looks. Many of the markers in this little cemetery have a variety of things that I guess the occupants liked when they were alive. It has a more welcoming feel to it than many other cemeteries I've been in.
