Train tracks

These are train tracks which run through old League City. In the early 1900s there were quite a few major railroad lines running through the city, but these days you only really see trains when you're in a hurry to get somewhere.

This is the last post of the year, so I hope everyone had a wonderful 2006 and has an even better 2007!

Little Girl

Another old one! Like the one of the pipe, this one is one of my first Fundamentals of Photography assignments. Unfortunately, I didn't know about dodging and burning at the time, but ah well. Taken on the Pentax ME Super on T-MAX 400 film.

Anyway, this was taken in the neighborhood park. There were some children there with their grandfather and he didn't mind me taking photos.

Too much YuGiOh

Welcome to the card section of Walmart. I frequent the trading card game area thing and I'm always amazed by how many YuGiOh cards they have. I mean... wow. I feel sorry for mothers and fathers of YuGiOh kids. Just so ya'll know, I check there for Pirates cards and occasionally Magic the Gathering... which I don't play anymore, but I keep saying I will. I also go to Horizon Games... but that's not in League City. Too bad there are no stores in League City that sell Reaper Minis.

CVS

This is a photo of the CVS over in the South Shore area.

Sorry, it's an older photo. I'm sick right now and can't really get out to take something nicer...

Public Library

The "Public Library" sign outside work, and a bit of the intersection of Highway 3 and Walker Street. My car's in the shop so I haven't been able to go out this week to take more photos as I'd planned.

Last day of the Christmas Tree

I didn't get to say it yesterday, so I'll say it today. Merry (late) Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it!

Waiting for Christmas

It's Christmas Eve and the girls can't wait until Christmas! Neither can I!

The Salvation Army has moved out!

Yep, it's that time of the year. Your chance to get rid some of that change for a better cause or whatever. This nice lady was outside the Walmart off I45 and... I forgot what it was called! Anyway, it's the only Walmart in League City.

Friday: Christmas Tree

This is the League City Christmas Tree, or, as my dad says, the "Christmas bush." It's outside the City complex, where City Hall, the library, the court, and the police station are located.

Leaf footed bug

Behold the Leaf Footed Bug, or Coreidae. Like the lizards and spiders I've posted, these guys are very common around here and are quite large. Many people think that these are stink bugs, but those are really the little sheild-shaped green bugs, though these do have scent glands...

Wednesday: Lights

I think I need to experiment with my camera to find out if I have a setting that will take photos of Christmas lights at night decently.

Dog doctor

This little statue is located in the flowerbeds infront of the Animal Medical Group on the corner of 518/Main and Louisiana near Clear Creek High School. This little guy's been sitting out there since we started taking our dog to this place. Kobie, unfortunately, had to get a couple of shots.

Monday: Leaves

Many trees don't get colorful in the fall around here, but some do! Others don't even lose their leaves until much later, usually in the spring when the new growth starts. That said, it still doesn't feel like December around here. Temperatures have been in the high seventies all week (that's 24~26°C, I believe). And sunny! I have to drive with my air conditioner on.

White trees

These trees were set up for a while in the Helen Hall Library's theater and were specifically for the open house we had a bit ago. They're really pretty.

Anole

This is a female Green or Carolina Anole. They're a native species of lizard that lives in the southern part of North America and are very common around here. They're usually green, but they turn brown when they're under stress or are too hot or too cold.

I absolutely love lizards and often spend time sitting around the back yard watching them. They're very curious and playful if they don't know you're there.

Friday: Christmas

Sorry about missing Wednesday! And every other day I've missed. I actually took this picture for Wednesday's post but obviously I forgot about posting. This is one a house around the corner from where I live. Those big inflatable Christmas decorations are really popular. There's Halloween ones, too. For some reason, though, there are also a lot of people who really hate them. I think they're cute in moderation, but having three like this is a little much. How are you going to mow your lawn?

Another jeweled Spider

Another one of these spiders decided to set up a web near the garage, only this one's higher up and out of the way and she's a deep red-orange instead of a bright yellow. FYI, These spiders are really very common around here... or at least around my house. I looked them up and it turns out that they're called Jewel or jeweled Spiders, Latin name Astracantha minax.

Here's a small article and here're some more sightings.

Also, the anoles (a local lizard) are out and about again since it's warming up, but they're all so skinny from hibernating! I'll try and get a photo of one if they put on some more weight before a front comes through.

Cool paint job

This car was in the in the Walmart parking lot! I thought it had a rather nifty paint job... it caught my eye. I've never seen this car before, though...

Monday: Davy

Davy Jones is unsure what to make of this strange, large-headed creature.

Kind of a stupid photo today!

Christmas lights

Christmas lights! There are so many of them everywhere... but they'll all be gone soon. I'm glad we have all the lights we need right now.

Dojo Christmas party

Today was the Christmas party at the Clear Lake Dojo. There was turkey, ham, and the rest people brought. This beer trash can cooler/dispenser seemed to be the highlight of the party as far as the judo and aikido boys were concerned.

Friday: Moe

A while back Ali posted some vague pictures of her Pinky:St toys, and now here's one of mine! I recently realized that some of my dad's bonsai are the perfect size for them. Sorry the lighting is bad in the picture. It just gets dark too early these days!

This little girl's name is Moe, by the way. It's pronounced like "mo-eh" rather than like the Three Stooges' Moe.

Fallen spider

This little guy had a nice-sized web going behind the garage... but then it got too big. I didn't my dog, Kobie, walking into the web and tracking the spider in and I certainly didn't want to walk into it, so I had to knock it down. I'm sure this little spider'll find a better place to build a web.

On another note, isn't it a really pretty yellow?

Car on a stick

This is the car on a stick. It's located off 518/Main near the Valero with the cheapest gas. It's just a car chassis turned sign. :D

Syrup parade

I was in Walmart (the new one off 45 in south League City) today and when I came around the corner into the aisle... there were these syrup bottles all nicely lined up. Unfortunately, I only had the Elph with me and I suck at shooting on automatic... please forgive the focus.

Monday: Old school

Last week I went to my old high school, which they've been rebuilding the past couple of years. They've pretty much demolished all the original buildings. I could hardly even remember where anything used to be. Behind the tree is the library, one of the few things still standing. The building on the right is entirely new. On the other side of those bushes is where my friends and I used to hang out between classes.

Sunday: Hole

On Saturday while we were cleaning in the attic my dad managed to put a hole in the ceiling.

Friday: Goo Gone
