Tree lighting

Today was the Helen Hall Library Open House and the official lighting of the city Christmas tree. There was food, drinks, a balloon artist, and, of course, Santa Claus! Normally, we would all go outside for the tree lighting (it's a living tree outside of the library), but since it's 30 degrees outside and we south Texans aren't used to that kind of thing, we just watched from inside as the tree was lit. I'll try to take a photo of it later.

Wednesday: Christmas tree

We set up our Christmas tree last Saturday. It's a fake tree, and has the lights already on it, but it looks really nice. Unfortunately my shot of the whole tree came out blurry, but here's one of our ornaments!

Hot cowboy

My mother and I went to the local Taco Bell/Pizza Hut that's on the corner of 518/Main and 270 by Kroger... and I noticed this while we were standing in line! Isn't he such a happy cowboy?

Monday: Silhouette

Thanks to William for reminding me that I needed to post!
This is a view across Clear Creek from Fairview Cemetery (though my subdivision is indeed no where near it, there is a Clear Creek in League City). Clear Creek is one of League City's borders, so across the way is actually Webster.

Potted plant?

This "potted" plant always amuses me because it's not really potted. My mom did this because she saw it on TV and thought it was a good idea.

Mixed

This is from when I was playing around and comparing a few of my toys a bit ago. The tops halves of these are toys called Pinky:st and the bottoms are from the Idol Master Trading Figures, which go incredibly well with the Pinky:st figures with some modding.

So yeah... another old photo!

Friday: Oaks

Dusk in my neighborhood. Around here, many areas are sectioned off into "subdivisions" of houses. The subdivision I live in (and also Li, though she lives in a different section) is called The Oaks of Clear Creek, nevermind the fact that Clear Creek isn't really anywhere near it. League City is known for its oaks, however, so much so that the city's seal is actually an image of an oak tree. This has always amused me somewhat as oaks are really not native to this area. In my subdivision, when all the houses were built they got one oak tree (some people have more than one, though) in their front yard, so looking down the streets here you just see oak after oak after oak.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving all my fellow Americans. For those of you who are from other countries, the fourth Thursday in November is always Thanksgiving over here. I took a photo of this happy fellow. We've set him out every year for the past several years and no matter what weather he suffers through, he always looks happy. Yo go little straw man!

Wednesday: Doll

My apologies for missing Monday! I'm afraid this is a rather old picture as well. It just gets too dark too early these days! And today my camera's batteries died and I kept forgetting to replace them!

Okay!

Since Li posted a picture yesterday of me fooling with my dolls, I supposed I'd share a better photo of one of the dolls. This is Branwen, one of my girls. I am completely obsessed with my dolls, but I'll resist the urge to go on about them all (for now). I'll probably post more pictures of them sooner or later anyway.

Branwen is a Ani girl from Cerebus Project, by the way.

Maggie playing with dolls

This is Maggie and two of her dolls, Llyr and Branwen, in Helen's Garden. This little garden is across 518/Main from League Park. Helen and Walter Hall both did a lot for League City and this garden was made in memory the deceased Helen Hall. It's a very pretty place.

Anyway, this is a bit of revenge since there are two photos of myself here but none of her... so ha. And you get to see her with her dolls.

Sunday: Li again!

Okay, this is kind of a lame picture! It also wasn't technically taken in League City (the movie theater is in Webster, which is right next to League City) but I had to post it anyway! Li and our friend Sarah with the penguin who was at Cinemark on Friday promoting Happy Feet.

Pipe

This is located behind the neighborhood park. They seem to be doing some sort of pipe work, and yes, that is a pipe, not water. It's huge.

It was shot on the Pentax ME Super on T-Max 400... and is one of my very first things I did for my Fundamentals of Photography class.

Lipstick

My back is starting to feel better and I actually went somewhere besides work today: CVS. This little display caught my eye because it's for lipstick... pencils. I don't wear make-up, so I'm not really up to date with the latest make-up trends, but I can't help but find this one weird.

Friday: Hands

Unfortunately, I'm feeling really under the weather today and simply cannot summon up the strength nor willpower to actually go out and take a picture today. This was taken last Thursday in the same place as yesterday's photo, Fairview Cemetery.

Bird House

This is the random bird house in Fairview Cemetary in the old part of League City. It's on a really long pole above the ground and it really is quite random.

Wednesday: I wanted to post a cat picture but the cat ran away

It's insanely windy today! This is a house around the block from mine. I also saw a row of decapitated trees on my way home but I had no place to pull over to take a picture.

Computers Galore

I thought I'd follow Maggie's example and post a photo of one of my work areas as well. This is the computer area. Yes, it is a mess. I do anything from homework to coloring on these guys. On the left is Loki, the HP laptop, and the right two are the monitors for Omoikane, the desktop, who you can see tucked under the desk.

Please forgive the quality; I hurt my back again today and my Panasonic camera was downstairs while the ancient Elph was on the desk... and I'll just say that walking really hurts so the Elph won.

Monday: work work work

Terrible photo today! This is the desk I use as a sewing table. Yes, it always looks like this. One of my major hobbies is Asian ball-jointed dolls, and I love to make clothes for them (and play with them, of course). The current project is little Santa hats for friends' dolls. It's lots of hand-stitching so the sewing machine is in the way right now.

Sunday: Li

I'm afraid I didn't get much of a chance to actually go out and take any new photos today (all homework and housework this weekend), and Li is out of town so she has nothing new to share herself... So, I'm attempting to make up for it by posting a picture of Li from last Thursday. This was taken at League Park, in downtown League City (known also as "Old League City"). We spent almost an hour goofing off on the kids' playground equipment. Good times.

The Old Fig Factory

Maggie and I were wandering around the older part of League City and stumbled across this place. Apparently in the 1920's League City's major crop was figs (According to this page), which is something I never knew; it's amazing what you learn when you wander around. The gentleman who owns it let us in to take a look around inside and showed us painting of what it looked like before they renovated it and all.

Outside, they had a cool lantern hanging that I'd like to show ya'll. You can see it here.

Friday: smaller city

Well... there's sky in this picture, but it's not a picture of sky. These banners have been all over the city for some time. I'm not really sure who decides what America's top 100 smaller cities are, but now you know that League City is one of them.

Turtles

This is one of the turtles that lives in the pond in League Park; they're all so cute. There were a few others that were sunning and they were all very shy. This one dove into the water soon after I took this photo.

Thise one's taken on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20K. I forgot to mention it, but the last post was taken on the Elph.

Wednesday: another sky

Another sky... This is the result of my first time ever randomly pulling off the road to take a picture. It would be nicer if the freeway wasn't in it, I admit, but I had to take what I could get.

The power lines in this picture (all lit up gold.. they're as pretty as they ever get) go by (and through) my neighborhood. Sometimes you can hear them humming... I've always wondered why.

Voting

Today is the day to vote in the Texas general elections! I also voted for the first time ever. Joy. They had this sign outside the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center. So go vote! You have until 7:00.

Monday

Sorry the first photo is kind of boring. Until the end of November, I have school from 8:00-4:00 and then work from 5:00-8:00, so it leaves little time for photo taking (that hour between is spent getting from one place to the other). This was taken behind the library I work at.

You may notice the trees are still green... around here, trees don't turn colors, and many don't really lose their leaves until spring when the new ones start growing.

...And me

'ello, I'm Li, emu's "partner in crime" and I'll be posting on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. So we'll have double posts on Sundays.

Unlike emu, I'll say a bit about myself because I know I'm so interesting. *cough*

I'm an art student at the University of Houston currently majoring in Graphic Communication, but I'm planning on switching to Photography and Digital Media as soon as I quit slacking and make an appointment with my councilor. :D

Also, the cameras I may be using are a Pentax ME Super, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20K, and an ancient crappy Canon Elph that I don't remember all the stuff for but it's tiny and easy to carry. Wait, I just found the Elph; it was right in front of me. XD It's a PowerShot SD100 Digital Elph.

In my case, I might not always post 100% new photos because I'm unfortunately very busy during the semester, but I'll make sure to have a collection to pick from when I can't shoot a new one. :O

Anyway, please enjoy our pictures of our little city.

Hello, it's me

Just a quick intro where I say nothing about myself!

Upon discovering some of the other daily photo blogs on Blogger, I decided to make my own. However, since I am very bad at daily things, I pulled my soul sista into the mess as well! I am your Monday, Wednesday, and Friday girl (plus Sundays).

My camera isn't nearly as awesome as my partner in crime's is, but I'll manage!
